South Pacific

Week 1 April 10th -15th

On Tuesday evening we arrived in Tahiti, it was an eight hour flight and it has eleven hour time difference to England. When we came out of the airport someone gave us garlands of flowers which we put round our necks. When we arrived at the boat we met someone who sailed the boat from Panama, Who was called Campbell, who was from Australia. We found out that Tahiti’s tides are influenced by the sun and not the moon.

The next day we got in the dingy and went over to the reef where we had a snorkel. When we got in the water it was really refreshing because it was so hot. After lunch we went and got a hire car.

The next day we drove round the island in the hire car. The traffic was terrible going the other way. We started driving up a hill but the road was closed because there had been an accident. When we got half way round the island we had to stop because there had been a land slide and there were some men fixing it.

Later that day we left to go to Tiki Hau. The sail was 25 hours long. We stayed there for two nights. The second night we ate out at the restaurant where there were locals, playing there guitars and the children were playing on the beach.

On the second morning I saw my first black tip reef shark from the dock which ran out from the beach. Later that day we went for a snorkel in the shallows where we saw some more black tip reef sharks and some sting rays.
