Week 8 May 27th - 2nd June

27th May

The next day Mummy and I went to the Doctor, so that he could have a look at my ear. We got some antibiotics and painkillers for it. Later on we went to the supermarket to get some more provisions for our trip. On the way back we saw Golden Opus coming back. When we got back to the Hotel we packed our bags and came back to the boat in the tender. Later on we went out to dinner at the Kaina hut where we had a nice meal. On the way back to the tender I almost stepped on a big crab with huge claws. As soon as it saw us it scuttled off into the bushes.

The following day we had a 4 hour motor to Maupiti. When we arrived at Maupiti we had to go through a very narrow pass in the reef with large breakers on both sides of us. As we came through the channel we passed between two small islands. The main island had a huge sheer cliff with lots of sea birds circling. Unlike Bora Bora, Maupiti has no hotels or restaurants. There was a small airport, and we had arranged for our new fore sail to be flown out there so we could pick it up before leaving for Samoa.

The next day my ear felt better and we went windsurfing. Mummy was also preparing food for our four day trip. We went into the main village to have a look around.

We found a bakery that sold fresh baguettes and croissant. There was also a small shop which sold mostly tinned food. The following day, when the fore sail was due to arrive, we found out that the flight had been cancelled, so we had to motor back to Bora Bora to pick it up from there.

On Thursday 31st we got some last minute provisions in Bora Bora, put up the new Genoa (foresail) and set sail for Suwarrow, except there was no wind, so we had to motor sail to start with. We had mixed weather for our trip, sometimes it was really windy and we were able to sail, and sometimes the wind was light, and we had to put the engine on. During the trip we caught a huge Tuna, After Mike had filleted the Tuna we had four and a half kilos of meat. In it’s  stomach there were loads  of squid which Mike had to pop out.
